AUDeGO

Ode To Self

Joel Frieders | February 6, 2019

AUDeGO are one of my weaknesses. That gorgeous lilt on her voice makes me feel like I'm in some strange dream and the daughter of Beth Gibbons is slowly pulling some magical sword out of some mythical stone and with every slow pull I get more and more anxious.

Not like the shitty anxiety that living in 2019 causes all up inside me, but like that sexual anxiety of knowing you're about to get some and you have all the time in the world.

YEA, THAT'S IT. AUDeGO sound like I'm about to get some stank on my hanglow (as the catholics are calling it these days).

Actually, if I really think about it, and if I focus on the title of the track, maybe this new single "Ode To Self" is the song that plays while we set up for an evening of self-love and pampering. I know that my self-love events usually include a few IPAs, multiple small bags of cheetos, and some Netflix, but hey we've all got our rituals.

I love that AUDeGO are continuing to drop tasteful electronica that makes me long for the days when Portishead and Massive Attack were all I listened to (on burned CDs no less). If you were in the market for another Australian group to obsess over, grab onto these barbies, because they're sensual, comforting, and hot DAMN these beats are flame.

Plus, if you needed another reason to love their music, just imagine my self-love events and the cheeto dust is EVERYWHERE.

A bit about the single from the band:
"Ode to Self" is about wondering where the hell my self-confidence went. I wrote it as though I was addressing someone else, asking why they won’t love me anymore. The song is based around a beautiful, hypnotic sample loop and layered with a webbing of vocals.
