One Song: Damien Rice - I Don't Want To Change You

Tom Doz | October 8, 2014
8 years. That is how long it's been since Damien Rice has released an album. And I have a feeling that I'm probably the only one at SYFFAL who is down with Damien Rice because his songs are on the verge of being overly sappy, but I can't deny the feelz they bring to the interior of my pants. His fucking Irishy voice is so damn smooth and he is the master of introducing some stringz at those perfect moments....those moments when you already have goose bumps, but he makes them grow even more and you can feel your skin stretching to the max. ...that's what Damien Rice does. 'I Don't Want To Change You' is the first track off of his album My Favourite Faded Fantasy that will be out on 11-11 and is produced by Rick fucking Rubin. Does...

One Song: William Red Thedford IV - THANGTHANG

Brandon Backhaus | September 9, 2014
I've said Busdriver is the Frank Zappa of Hellfyre. And Neitzche Cortez, its Captain Beefheart. For the sake of the game let's say Nocando is its Mick Jagger, Open Mike its Harry Nilsson, and Milo its Brian Eno. In my completely ridiculous opinion manufactured for the sake of my very own fucking entertainment, Sir William Red Thedford IV is Hellfyre Club's Ozzy Osbourne. It was either that or its Jim Jones. But Jim Jones wasn't nearly as acerbic, mordant, or fucking talented as WRTIV, koolaid or no koolaid. Ozzy, though, as godfather of snorting up lines of ants like cocaine and chomping off chiroptera heads, and attracting the devout parallels Thedford's contributions as the godfather of the, THANG THANG and the sole proprietor of the ThuggyCult...

One Song: DAMEHT - Girl Jeans

Joel Frieders | August 26, 2014
Whoever the Fuck DAMEHT are, they're fucking KILLING me with this Girl Jeans track. At first I thought I was listening to a smooshwich of The 1975 and The Neighborhood, but without the "the", ALLS I HEARS IS THE FRESHIES. Seriously, if you were in the market for a track to pop pop jiggle to, I just found it for you bro. The guitar action on this track feels like a direct shoutout to Michael Jackson's Beat It but in a reverence I can only compare to the first time I heard Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me" when I was a kid. It isn't that there's any copycat shit happening, but holy Fuck does this go down as smooth as the aforementioned jammies. DAMEHT have somehow combined the ting ting bling of synthy electro pop with a gentle brooding sense of...

One Song: Wildcat - Marfa

Tom Doz | August 21, 2014
Wildcat! Wildcat! just released their debut album No Moon At All and it's pretty fucking good. I'm probably going to review it soon, but because I prcastinatez, I needed to get up this track for Marfa ASAP. fucking Marfa! I've mentioned many times before that I'm a whore for songs that take me on journeys. Songs that end nothing like they start.....like the band is mashing a couple of tracks into one. Think 'A Day In The Life' of 'Paranoid Android'. fucking Marfa! This song is the last track on the album and the finale is grandiously epic. What starts out like a MGMT track (before MGMT took too much acid) takes a drastic turn at 2.15 when the dance beat dicipates into nothing and we are left with a repeating and quietly crooning line 'You don'...

One Song: Bahamas - All The Time

Tom Doz | July 10, 2014
In case you didn't know Afie Jurvanen is Bahamas and Bahamas is Afie. Coincedentally, that is the name of his new album that is coming out on 8-19. Wait. Wait. Back the Fuck up? Did I just say Bahamas is releasing a new album???? Holy shit. I did! This all came as a pleasent surprise to me when I came across Afie's new track 'All The Time' yesterday. While listening, a pleasent calm came over me and thoughts of his previously released album 'Barchords' came rushing back into my memories. I loved this album so hard back then; it was one of my favorites of 2011 and I can confidentally say 'All The Time' picks up where Barchords left off. This track is the condensation dripping off your cold glass of lemonade being drank on...

One Song: Frank Zappa - Black Page

Tom Doz | January 11, 2013
Why am I writing another One Song when we retired the feature last week? Well, technically that was the group version of One Song. We still plan on keeping the feature but in a non-group setting. It will be a little more intimate...a little more personal...and we won't have to shout over Joel's loud 'fucking-fuckity-fuck-fuck sentences.' Whenever we have the need to talk about a single song..that isn't new, but still kicks ass....we will use this format. Soooooo, I'm going to talk about Frank Zappa's legendary Black Page and tell you a little story about a kid named Steve Vai. It's not too well known that Steve Vai got his major break with Frank Zappa. Sure Vai, a student of Joe Satriani, is a...
