Kid Astronaut- Elevate

Johnny Symmes | July 22, 2015
Kid Astronaut is neither a Kid nor an Astronaut. He is, however, a talented man by the name of Jon Shockness. If you've been paying attention to anything I've said on this here site you should have read about a band called Air Dubai. Jon has subsequently ventured out on his own with this solo endeavor and he has hit the ground running with the video for Elevate. Elevate is a soulful and smooth track that gives Kid Astronaut an opportunity to showcase his vocal talent. The video is simple but elegant using dark backgrounds and shadowy figures dancing to not shine away from the music. It's not too distracting, it keeps your attention, and the visual matches KA's overall style. The future is bright for this dude as he leaps out into the dark unknown world on his own. I'm...

Moodie Black- Deathen

Brandon Backhaus | July 21, 2015
This song is what played in my head after a missed alarm and a cold, old cup of coffee and my ex-wife banging on/breaking a window to wake me up to take my kids to the airport. She didn't ever mention the naked girl on the couch. It wasn't my proudest moment but goddamn if Moodie Black didn't capture the fucking dark soupy hate simmering down deep in my root chakra's elliptical orbit around my sore balls as I rode shotgun cloaked in dark glasses and a drool-caked beard. I love being slapped in the face with new music. It's like the opposite of "RIYL" PR emails. It's like the difference between sex on the kitchen floor with toppled wine glasses and smeared lipstick, and falling asleep watching whoever took Jay Leno's place as the hood ornament of snooze town.

FTLiENS- Shark.wav

Brandon Backhaus | July 16, 2015
Our SyffaLove for rapper, road warrior, and certified Floridian, Bleubird is well-endowed. His Cannonball record was a fucking masterpiece from start to finish. The thing about Bleubird is that he CAN'T BE CONTAINED! While Cannonball was gentle, well-thought out, emotive, this FTLiENS shit couldn't be any different! Teaming up with Fort Lauderdale producer Numonics, sees old Bleuby jumping into that swampishly humid, polo-cologned and baby powdered Florida-certified bass rap that smells like delicious manatee farts, a delicacy among the people of the Everglades. The weird thing is is that it's not totally tongue and cheek. Bleubird and Numonics as FTLiENS are more paying homage to that bass-driven turn-up that raised them like methane-scented wolves! But there's enough of Bleubird's "I...

Triune Gods- Stacks on Stacks on Stacks on Stacks

Brandon Backhaus | July 14, 2015
I fucking love every. single. thing. about this video for Stacks on Stacks on Stacks on Stacks from Triune Gods. From the windswept desert... to the Japanese spirit forest... to Bleubird's weird singsongy chorus things… to sibitt's chill chops… to Bleubird and sibitt's back and forth raps… to Scott Da Ros's chiming beat and greying goatee. Most of all this makes me want to go sit deep in a Japanese forest all by myself and write rhymes with the spirits.

Mariachi El Bronx- Wildfires

Brandon Backhaus | July 14, 2015
I went to Beach Goth last year. For those of you that don't know, Beach Goth is the Growlers' yearly festival of debauched punk rock and miscellaneous indie green-haired and black pantsed badassery. Besides feeling like the ancient mother fucker I've truly become, I caught a set from Mariachi El Bronx, the mariachi offshoot of LA punk band The Bronx. You might recognize them from Adult Swim's Aqua Something You Know Whatever aka Aqua Team Hunger Force's theme song with Schooly D. During their performance I was COMPLETELY blown away by Matt Caughthran's vocals, the band's exquisitely embroidered matching outfits, precision instrumentation, and white people's complete inability to dance to a waltz. Here's Mariachi El Bronx's official video to Wildfires. Time to go buy some Lucha...

World Premiere: Curly Castro and DJ Fakts One- Dry Ice

Ralph Perez | July 13, 2015
Curly Castro, the indelible Wrecking Crew's rap version of Jubei (Ninja Scroll suckers!) has dropped off his newest video for Dry Ice, and has blessed us with the gift of being the first to debut the visuals. Dry Ice is 1:54 seconds of Curly Castro verbally throat chopping your punk asses, while DJ Fakts One crafts the theme music to the said throat assault. If you haven't already heard Curly Castro & Fakts One's Restroy & Debuild, you A) suck, because we had the interview and debut of album here on the site, and B) have to be sleeping under the biggest, darkest, internet-less-est rock in the whole world! To help combat your clear developmental impairments, Curly Castro has taken to releasing a cassette version of Restroy & Debuild, as well as his gritty full...

Sun Drugs- Wildman

Staff | July 9, 2015
Dude, we got this tasty fucking surprise this morning. The shit-bags of Vanaprasta who broke our hearts back when the rolled into town, stopped by our greasy spoon and then made love to us all night long promising us all sorts of follow ups and b-sides, before skedaddling the next morning on their dusty chopper and telling us they are married to the road and can’t be tied down are back with their new iteration – Sun Drug – apparently one of the band members, let’s call him Donnie, has decided to go back to nursing school because he love the feel of scrubs on his satchel. Well Joel and I decided to strip down to our underwears and Greco-Roman wrassle the shit out of this fucker. Enjoy our tasty takes. Tim: Holy fucking shit balls on a rosemary and olive oil Triscuit. What the Fuck bro....

The feather- Rays

Joel Frieders | July 6, 2015
Normally, I'm completely against fucking lyric videos. Mostly because I think it's a lazy way to release a music video, but also because I don't give a shit about what the actual lyrics are. I'm a purist bro. If I think you said "take, these chicken wings, and learn to fry again" then that is what the fucking lyrics are bro. I don't need "TRUTH" to cloud my interpretation of art bro. Don't come at me like I got a flower pot head. BUT, this new track from The feather is so genuinely gentle I would be an asshole if I didn't ask to take a peek in the bork notebook that first received such lyricism like the lyricism that is demonstrated on the track Rays. Talk about fucking whimsy bro. The feather sound like a much more denim version of Balthazar meets Coldplay meets Lemon Jelly, and...

Hugh Augustine- Expensive Taste

Brandon Backhaus | July 3, 2015
I've never met of Hugh Augustine. At least if I did see him "Still Standing on LaBrea," I didn't know it was him. But I feel like I've heard him before. Hugh Augustine has a new video out called, "Expensive Taste," and I'm feeling baller as fuck today. In it, his accent, cadence, attitude, they all seem so prototypically Los Angeles, that it's hard not to feel like we've dapped it up outside the Airliner at least once. Maybe substitute Airliner with Kaos Network and I might be more correct. Maybe. (If you're not from LA or a degenerate rapper and have no idea what I'm talking, come visit, fucker!) But I feel like I've at the very least stood in an dark alley outside somewhere doing something your wife would get mad at your for in the general proximity of Mr. Augustine. Hugh Augustine has...

Nicsaan- Only Shadow (Cat Video)

Joel Frieders | July 2, 2015
Can we make this a thing? Can every song I might not get into via streaming audio-only link come packaged in a cat video? Nicsaan, you're a genius. Your cat is fucking awesome, and I have watched your video three times since opening your submission email. Not only am I endeared to your song because of how awesome Cat Surpeme is as an individual, I'm endeared to Cat Supreme because of how patiently introspective "Only Shadow" is. So, cat videos, everyone, this is how you get strangers to listen to your music.
