niopo tree stipend

Brandon Backhaus | August 23, 2016

I woke up on Sunday morning and my beard’s matted. I watched this video before putting the tea kettle on for the French Press. My girlfriend is still asleep even though she set the alarm. If there was an embodiment of hip hop’s inner child, its name in Milo

I just watched the new video from Milwaukee/Chicago/Los Angeles/Earth’s most genuine rap soul under the moniker Scallops Hotel called, “niopo tree stipend.” Milo is my favorite rapper. And to be honest, technically, he’s not at the top. Maybe in the category of academic references I’m usually too far removed from a college classroom to retrieve.

Milo is my favorite rapper. It’s because he seems like he’s rapping from the future and the past simultaneously. His music is so human and inspired that I can’t help but tear up. I want to be like Rory Ferriera. He seems so full of love. It should be celebrated. How has the world not hurt him? He must be strong, stronger than I will ever be. And I respect him for that. I find myself rooting for him. I find myself proud of him. I find myself happier when he makes a video like this one. Milo is my favorite rapper. The reasons are uncountable.

“Niopo Tree Stipend” is from too much of life is mood, a 40-minute, cassette-formatted, Pablo Neruda-referenced sketchbook available from Bandcamp
