Elsphinx

Cellar Door and Album Pre-order

Tim Baker | May 26, 2015

Cellar Door is the first video from an album I have been anticipating for nearly three years, Brain Cave Deluxe by my friend and labelmate Elsphinx. I first heard snippets of the album when I was recording at Pig Food Records HQ back in 2012. I was floored by how original and game changing the music felt. There was something entirely fresh and original about Elsphinx's approach, his content veered from the standard underground hip hop tropes landing him somewhere between the worlds of Carlos Castaneda, Hunter S. Thompson and Supreme Clientele era Ghostface Killer. It was all Hallucinogens and blue and cream wallies.  Dude was killing it.

I finally got my hands on the album a few weeks back and I can say it stands up. Elsphinx is one of those generational voices that launches a thousand careers. I had the same feeling listening to the early recordings of Brain Cave Deluxe that I had when I first heard Company Flow and Aesop Rock. It was something new and untouchable. You just had to let it exist in its own world and hope that one day you can reach those levels of being awesome.

Brain Cave Deluxe comes out on June 5th on Pig Food Records. You can read a bit more about it here or preorder this badboy here.

Love,
Tim
