This Patch of Sky

Bella Muerte

Joel Frieders | July 13, 2017

My adoration and admiration for This Patch of Sky is quite public.

My appreciation for their music has awarded me strength I didn't know I had. During some of the worst times of my life, over the last near decade, I've found solace, encouragement, inspiration, and calm within the music of This Patch of Sky.

I somehow magically befriended the members of the band five or six years go on the internets, and I've followed, liked, and commented on a majority of their successes over their recent history. But now with the announcement of their signing to Graphic Nature Records (an arm of Equal Vision Records) made just today, I have a selfish announcement of my own. After days of discussing the following with my wife Julie, I was given the OK to pack up my entire family (kids and all) and travel to Brooklyn to see This Patch of Sky in person for their October 6th, 2017 show at Goldsounds, just before their trip to the dunk!USA Festival.

While I'm super balls jacked to see their first East Coast performance in person, I think I'm even more excited to hug the everloving crap out of these hairy lumberjack masseuses and thank them in person for existing as I have loved them since discovering that they existed all those years ago.

Today ALSO marks the release of their first taste of their new album, These Small Spaces, which will drop September 22, 2017. The song is titled "Bella Muerte" and is a perfect introduction to the band if you've never heard them, but for those of us already in the know, LISTEN TO THOSE DRUMS WELCOME IN THE SILENCE. HOLY GORGEOUS. With these epic battle drums pairing with these please-play-this-at-my-funeral strings, I'm so far into the OMG OMG OMG OMG I CAN DIE NOW part of the fanboy circle of life that I've listened to this a dozen times and STILL can't tell where it ends and I begin.

This Patch of Sky is what I recommend to anyone who asks what I'm into, not that I only listen to TPoS, but it's what I'd like to feel like all the time. In between all of the other music that I geek out over, This Patch of Sky is the teddy bear I pack for college, na mean?

PLEASE GO BUY EVERYTHING THIS BAND HAS EVER CREATED, AND THEN COME SEE THEM IN BROOKLYN AND DUNK!USA IN OCTOBER!
