TV Girl, Benny and the Jetts, Indie Pop

I think I quite bother some people with my obsessive nature. "Think" is the nice way of saying "I know I do it but I'm unwilling to acknowledge my faults". When I latch on to a band I will relentlessly go on and on to you about how great said band's album is until I have visual proof from you that you downloaded said album. The quickest way to shut me up is to hit Amazon or Bandcamp (Fuck iTunes) and then forward me your confirmation email. I will not relent until then. Damn I sound annoying as Fuck don't I? Sometimes there are bands out there that need to be championed to the point of pulling a Jaleel White. I refuse to live in a world where I'm the only one that knows the awesome badaasery of San Diego's TV Girl.

You need their popped out hooks.

You need their righteous outlawed samples, legal precedent be damned.

You need their sunny glow on a stormy day.

Benny and the Jetts is a four track mini masterpiece of bursting at the seams hooky jams that fill you with a sense of nostalgia that you never knew you were looking for... while also sounding insanely fresh and new. It boggles the mind more so than Boggle the shitty board game ever could. One has to assume TV Girl use magic to craft their jams.

TV Girl fucking magic.

Benny and the Jets piano opener makes you feel like Kevin Arnold might finally have a chance with Winnie Cooper... and then the kicking drum beat flies in and you start thinking "Damn son, Corey Matthews and his trip hop beats might be pulling a full on robbery on the big K.A." shit gets get Savage.

Baby You Were There was highlighted as a SYFFAL VOTD not too long ago. It's a killer jam that has a white washed Polynesian flare to it that only The Brady's could match for pound for pound island rockery. That pound for pound ratio is sans Alice. That menial porker would tip the scales. She was needed elsewhere anyway. Sam The Butcher's go to "Baby You where there" piece should have seen the writing on the wall. There was no romance, just a steady delivery of meat.

Lizzy Come Back to Life is at its heart a commentary on the previous legal issues the duo found themselves in the middle of thanks to an uncleared Todd Rundgren sample. What better way to drop an FU to Warner Bros and all parties involved then by singing "I wrote a new song... it sounds like one of your songs... it doesn't really matter". Of course I could be completely off base and it could be about Lizzie McGuire and her stunning music career. Hence the throwback sounds. The jams is So Yesterday, brah

The beautiful thing about this duo is they're not asking for anything in return. If you hit their FB page you can grab the Benny and the Jetts EP for free! How everyone in my circle of A-hole friends hasn't done this yet is beyond me. If you don't DL it Your Own Religion will be my TV Girl kiss off anthem to you.  I just realized that reference will be lost on you if you don't download the EP..so for the sake of my relevancy it behooves you to go download it. ..otherwise you'll open up a pandora's box worth of Back to the Future-esque grandfather paradoxes that I just can't have in my life.

GO GET THE EP!
