I think 'Harps' is my favorite song from Runner, the amazing new album by Thrill Jockey artists and part time vacation enthusiasts The Sea and Cake. The video, though I have no idea what the Fuck it is about, is pretty fantastic; even if it is just a nostalgia trip for people born prior to 1979. The look, feel and style is striking to me, in that it nailed what my childhood felt like - bored, sort of grey and getting into shit because there was nothing else to do.
Was it better or worse? Who the Fuck knows? Everyone thinks their childhood was better than the current installment of childhood. It is the narcissist in us and why people get upset that the TV shows/toy commercials they grew up with are now mega blockbusters that don't stay true to the spirit of said show. Like the spirit of the Transformers cartoon was anything other than selling shitty action figures?
I hate my generation.
