Help yourself to the serious sights and sounds of San Jose courtesy of The UN's (Opski Chan x IL Twice x Matty Slims) lead single, People Up On It, to the group's approaching, eponymous album.

Morbidly-o-Beats - Transmitting Live From Jupiter

Marked by murk and mirth Morbidly-o-Beats slides in with a powerhouse intro to his latest digital tape, Transmitting Live From Jupiter, beat massacre rendezvous; utilizing Tupac not as a hologram, but a hearkening to his heartbreaking days of glory. And it is in that spirit that this sixteen-banger tumbleweed turns from temperament to torpedo-speed at the introduction of each new kick or mangled glockenspiel. Track four, "Loyal To The Grain", bolts out of the gate like Seabiscuit-on-Steroids yet winds down in the most satisfying and surprising of ways: morphing from an unnerving, confrontational break into a smoothed-out 'Jeep & Blunts' soundtrack. Horns emerge only to disappear while the bass beelines for your brain and proceeds to bore...

Human Pippi Armstrong | Easy Does It

Usually when an artist wants peace and perspective they find it in the Carolinas and come back with a bag of songs fit for Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep to bone to. Human Pippi Armstrong is the flip side of that coin: weird, slow, short, unflinching. A grand total of four tracks is the ticket here as Pippi cracks the window and allows us a glimpse of his chyron.  With Easy Does It he discourses merrily on everyday subjects like Lithium and boredom.

"The Best Coasts Have Surfer Blood Washed Out By Wavves" is this EP's high point with its spectacularly foreboding riff and peculiar drone-rap-sing-mumble-repeat vocals. I'd call this hangover music with enough dark quirks to get you dancing. If you've ever wondered what Dick Dale would...

Ivory Wave - Female Beginner

"MY GIRLFRIEND HIT ME IN THE FACE...I BLAME MY...COCAAAAYYYYNNNEE HABIT/MY SEVENTEEN JUST WENT AWAY...TOO BAD I NEVERRR...HAAAAADDDDDDD IT!" Those are the first lyrics of the first song on this six track switchblade. Female Beginner is the soundtrack to the movie "Fuck you, Mom & Dad!" and, if you like me were an incorrigible teenage bastard, you'll shake your head along violently. And whenever I can engage in rebellion from my iPod/Pad I happily Chuck D the Fuck out. The track "TV" is an instrumental barbiturate that's like every window in your neighborhood breaking in slow motion.

Ivory Wave, this tetrad of TNT, is from Bloomington, Indiana is seemingly new which means a) we'll...

The Jacka Ft. Freeway & Fed-X - So Many Animals

So Many Animals was filmed in the middle of Occupy Oakland with the genuine look and feel. The Jacka goes in and through an instantly engaging beat. An ill twerk on boilerplate Bay Area Boom Bap. Top 5 of 2012 for me.
