Tom Dozois

Jaime Regan - House Keys

The Brits love me (Tom) and Brando. What can I say? Brando is ginger and I enjoy Victorian era top hats and pocket watches. What is there not to love?

When this bloke, Jaime Regan, sent us his video he specifically requested that we check it out and I must gives chap a clap for his foresight. Mine and Brando's tastes don't overlap that often, but the uplifting parts of this folky acoustic song made our pale willys swell. And then we fenced.

If you are digging House Keys then check out Jaime's album on Bandcamp:

One High Five - Everybody Pull The Trigger

Sometimes you need a refreshing gasp of air from the artists who take themselves too seriously.

One High Five is that refresher because they just rock their asses off and have fun. This is what rock and roll is about bros; a bunch of guys who look like they enjoy kicking each other in the balls for fun, live out of a van, and their main bit of creativity (other than music) lie in their ability to create a bowl out of items you can find in a pantry.

If you can't enjoy this video then something is wrong with you. For real.

The SYFFALIST: Week of 2/25/2013

Who is not to say that we are not idiot savants at SYFFAL? Sure we have the idiot part down, but is the SYFFAList in title and format not shear genius? Tell me another place where you can get 30-40 properly vetted songs on a weekly basis, passionalatly described and laid out like a hooker on crack?

I'll tell you: probably on multiple internet sites.

BUT the point is nobody does it better than us. If you didn't agree you wouldn't be reading these vary words. We got rock. We got Jazz. We got rap. We got some Argentinian shit. We got some Japanese shit.

....We have Joel on his way to earning another restraining order.

What I'm trying to say is....we have big dicks and we know how to swing em. Enjoy the tunes...

Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again

It doesn't take much sometimes. In this case it maybe took 30 seconds to know that Michael Kiwanuka's album Home Again was going to bring me to my knees and posses me to start talking uncontrollably in tongue. Forget the entire composition of the album for a second (which is delightful); this dudes voice in itself is a spiritual experience.

I'm not sure where to exactly start with this review. Every single aspect of this album has me choked up. At this point in time, I feel like I could listen to Home Again exclusively for the next couple of months. The genre hybrid of Soul, Jazz, Folk, and R&B gives you the constant urge pour a bottle of blended red wine over yourself and slow dance on a moon lit beach with Katy Perry while you rest your...

Black Books - Favorite Place

Hey Black Books, what the Fuck?

Why am I finding out about this video after it's gotten over 30k views in just 2 days on Vimeo and has been featured on the Huffington Post? Meg, their keyboardist is supposed to keep me aprised of these things! Afterall, we are the biggest Black Books fans. RIGHT????

These adorable dream poppers seem to be blowing up. Two weeks ago their song The Big Idea was featured on Showtime's Californication and now all the hype surrounding this video? At this rate, pretty soon they'll be on Jack motherFuckin' FM. And I'm not going to say I was their first fan, but I was their 32nd (as verified in writing on my limited edition green vinyl EP: An Introduction To).

According to the band this stop-motion video created by Chritophe Thockler took:

  • 10 000 photos
  • 1 km of thread
  • 350 reels of thread
  • 73 000 embroidery stitches
  • 6 kg of scraps of fabric
  • 100 needles and sewing pins

....Just watch it. You'll mant to make love on a water bed full of thread spools. And don't forget to check out their new EP Aquarena:
