I've been meaning to post this for a while. This song, Watermelon Heart is about a heart in a shell. Inside, the sweet love and delicious beauty remain. But you gotta go all Gallagher on that shits and smash! While it’s sometimes fun to have the mallet to really get in there, it usually means in your sitting front row you’d better be rocking your a plastic tuxedo.
It’s a fantastically simple concept. Really it is one of those songs you can’t believe you didn’t think of first. Sung sweetly by Spoken Nerd, it’s accompanied by an equally innocent, stop-motion video by Amelia Garreston Persans.
Look, I definitely didn’t go all Indiana Jones on this one - no crazy excavations or tomb raiding occurred. I saw the video. Liked it. Loved the song. Sometimes I feel like I don’t want to go beyond that for fear of what I might find. This has enough cheese on it that I might hate everything else this fucking weirdo tries to pull off. But this song, its got it. I was playing it loud at the crib and this girl that was staying with me walked through the house specifically to ask me who sings the song. That is a ringing endorsement coming from her. So I decided to let it roll and write about it.
