Pop Cultures Collide

You're the Best Around (Karate Kid)

Del LeFevre | April 11, 2011

For some time SYFFAL has been looking to involve the bands that we love to a greater extent on our site. Topless photos of rappers, favorite lox recipes (HI EL-P!) and chortle-inspiring interviews are swell, but we wanted to give our readers added inspiration to peep our naughty bits on a regular basis.

We all love cover songs. While we might not want to see a shit bar band playing She Talks To Angels, the familiar embrace factor is apparent, and you probably already know that SYFFAL loves pop culture. Our writing is knee deep in nostalgic hoopla and retro porn references.

So... what if we asked our favorite bands to record a cover of their favorite theme song from tv shows/movies/cartoons/video games/etc... from our past?

People are drawn to nostalgia. We're drawn to great fucking music. It just makes sense that these popular cultures collide at SYFFAL. Each month or so we'll bring you a new exclusive downloadable cover track from a kick-ass band to collect, reflect, and share with your friends.

A Word From Robotanists

Back in October we did a kickstarter.com pledge drive to help us make our new record and go on tour. Each person that pledged was rewarded with something personal from us. One of the rewards was a cover or remix by request, so this one goes out to our buddy Brandon who couldn't have picked a better track! We're all big fans of a good 1980s inspirational movie theme song and this one is certainly "the best around"! And since it was a remix/cover reward we tried to make it a little bit sexier and dreamier than the original. Next up on our kickstarter covers to do list is Kenny Rogers' "just dropped in (to see what condition my condition was in)" which most people know from the Big Lebowski. Another inspirational classic.
