Knxwledge

Flowrs EP

I recently discovered producer/instrumental hip hop artist Knxwledge and I have been delving deep into his sound since this discovery. Knxwledge is a muthafucking genius at crafting his signature sound that is full of glitches, left turns, brilliant instrumentation, wild vocal samples all melded into a cohesive sound that reminds me of a marriage of the production work of Dilla, MF Doom and Bob James. It is a kinky marriage that invites outsiders over for key parties and will randomly sunbath naked on the roof. Tanlines suck bro.

I absolutely love Knxwledge's production style, everything across his numerous albums just bangs front to back. It is anchored in an emotional realizm that exposes other producers and their in ability to break out from a specific mold or genre. He is able to transport you to another era while retaining the urgency and power of the now. He doesn't fall victim to the nostalgia that many producers tend to get weighed down with. It is fucking refreshing.

From what I was able to ascertain this bastard is from Philadelphia, has worked with some MCs and is just starting to make a name for himself. Philly has a long and rich hip hop tradition, with artists breaking out and creating original sounds that might not be appreciated on a mass level but are lauded by those in the know. Knxwledge is no different. While there is something familiar to the sound you need to understand the music to really get it. As a fan of the genre and antifan of the idea of pandering to expand your audience I truly appreciate this.

Knxwledge has a ton of albums including the ShadySide, Komposure, Gwapes and more; all of which are fantastic. You can't go wrong grabbing any of them. I decided to include the link for Flowrs EP simply because it is my favorite of the bunch. Rich musicality, endearing vocal samples, and twists and turns a plenty, Flowrs is an ideal soundtrack for a slow summer/early fall day. It kicks me in the man pouch every time I listen.

Like I said Knxwledge is the fucking shit.
