Factor Chandelier, Interview, Indie Hip Hop, Producer, Canada

I'm not afraid to tell someone that I'm a fan of them. But I am quite terrified of Canadians.

Ever since my run in with an angry Canuck outside of the Lillehammer Olympics, I've been particularly scarred. I don't really care to get into specifics, but I will say this: Canadian's who are wearing more than two of their nation's flags on their person are likely insane. I was nearly killed by a man-beast with 7 maple leaves upon his trunk, shoulders and cheeks.

Factor Chandelier is not that guy.

Factor Chandelier is the antithesis of hip hop producer. In fact, if I had to put Factor Chandelier into a box, I would call that box "indie" and leave out the hip hop. Nothing he creates is hip hop at face value. If anything, the rappers that work with him are tricked into thinking he's making rap beats, when in truth, he's making indie music, just with rappers over it.

His most recent project Factor Chandelier's Club Soda Series 1, is chock full of rappers you're already fans of, but the dude is seriously pissing on the line between hip hop and plain ol' music. If you care to see what he's working with in the pissin' department, check out the interview where he bares his schwanz for all to hear.

Yes, come listen to his naughty bits.

*I've included my favorite Factor Chandelier song EVER in the HISTORY of Factor Chandelier at the bottom of this interview. It was my first taste of Ceschi and Factor Chandelier and now I love both of them like brothers.

SYFFAL: I read somewhere that doesn't exist that your name, Factor, is actually a play on words. What words are being played and just who the hell do you think you are that you can play with the emotions of words?

Factor: A true lyrical miracle.

SYFFAL: You Canadians are all the same, with your laid back attitudes, your penchant for un-googleable musician pseudonyms, your high protein diets and your signature comic sans penmanship. Where do you find most of your inspiration for your interpretive dance routines?

Factor: My daily routine… which I may or may not do… starts with age plus 3 push ups… keeps me moderately fit… pickles, tomatoes and those cracked pepper and olive oil triscuits for my diet… then most of the time drinks… hopefully on the house.

SYFFAL: You like periods. We've taken a lot of flack in the past few weeks for our stance on partial girth ska torsion. Where is your favorite place for a picnic with the old ball and chain, and have you been called out as a weirdo for hanging around an actual chain with a ball on the end?

Factor: Yeah it's kinda something I am trying to get to catch on… plus my right leg is getting much stronger than my left. Never been referred to as a weirdo but I can only assume it's a compliment.

SYFFAL: You are a hip hop producer. It seems you could actually make more money as a grocery store bagger, but you chose the low road. What convinced you to stay so poor?

Factor: Damn I almost forgot about that … I guess there are lots of different ways to word it … but pretty much I do it for the free beer and spirits.

SYFFAL: Even MORE periods. MORE PERIODS? In America, we have these things called vegetables and they are delicious when sauteed with butter or steamed with a little chicken stock. BUT. Did you know that a raw vegetable contains enough enzymes inside of itself to actually digest itself once ingested into the human body? How does this change your opinion of me?

Factor: Cheese is a vegetable, right?

SYFFAL: In Russia, cheese cultures YOU. We've known each other for about 7 human minutes and already you're looking down your delicious human nose at me. My buddy Rob is opening his own towing business for boats that are out of commission on one of the local rivers. I'm trying to get him to use the name Rob n' Tug and he isn't understanding the double entendre at all. I would shit my britches if I saw on my credit card statement a charge from Rob n' Tug. Not only is it funny, but it's potentially divorce inducing. Have you ever intentionally induced a divorce Factor?

Factor: Jesus… I thought I was told you weren't going to bring this up again?

SYFFAL: Promises, broken, bruh. I've always been a big reader. About 8 years ago while in an airport I picked up a book from a guy named Brad Thor and it was all about this rogue American badass who is single handedly winning the war on terra (yes, terra). Ever since I've been really into American badasses being badasses throughout the world where non-American badasses are trying their darndest (yes, darndest) to punish the American public for having pricks in charge of the American government and armed forces.

If you were a Canadian badass, what would your name be and what would be your secret asset when it comes to defending your Canadian homeland? If I was a Canadian badass, I would be Trevor McPlaidShirt and my secret asset would be my knowledge of the marsupial mating habits around the Inuit lands located throughout Mother Canadas.

Factor: I am a Canadian Badass… and my name is Factor and the chandeliers. Secret asset - high tolerance.

SYFFAL: GAY! A friend of mine showed me a picture of him standing next to a moose. Moose are fucking huge brah. Have you ever seen a moose in person living in the Canadas?

Factor: yeah bro a couple… Mooses are gangster… Anyways, one time we did almost hit a bear on the highway and it got so scared it shit all over the road… No joke.

SYFFAL: Mooses are as hip hop as you can get in the deer family, have you ever considered the reason why Kay the Aquanaut is so darned cute? Love that little guy. Does he ever not wear a winter cap?

Factor: we call them toques… it is very cold up here… and even when it isn't cold you gotta be getting ready for it… or it is a fashion statement. not sure.

SYFFAL: Tell the fine people what projects you have coming out in the near future, where they can get ahold of you, and where you're performing next.

Factor: Paranoid Castle (Factor & Kirby Dominant)'s new album, Champagne Nightmares!, drops Aug. 30th. My first ever instrumental album, Factor and the Chandeliers, comes out on 10" and CD on November 8th. Tour dates to be announced soon! I've also got a digital only series (Club Soda) available right now on itunes.

SYFFAL: How awesome is our secret handshake?

Factor: Left right left right up down up down a b a b start select - cue; chest bump

SYFFAL: I LOVE YOU FACTRIZLES

Factor: Love you fuckers as well… thanks

SYFFAL: I would like to go on record as saying that the song with Ceschi off of your Chandelier album called Pray is one of my favorite songs ever in the history of music. Thank you for that. Now go Canuck yourself.
