We are proud to announce our new contest Floppy Seconds with former Def Jux producer paWL. For those of you not familiar with paWL he has produced tracks for some of the most popular names in the independent hip hop game: Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, Cage, Hangar 18, etc. As one of the signature sounds of former indie rap label Definitive Jux, paWL created a name for himself with his high energy drums and boom-bap style. Now paWL is mostly retired and has a slew of beats that need rapping on them. Let's be honest here, he cracked open a box of floppy discs and we saw an opportunity.
Thus, Floppy Seconds – every month paWL will make a new beat available from his catalog for rappers to rap on and record a track to. Up and coming and/or established rappers welcome. Our panel of judges who include the likes of Blockhead, Alaska from Hangar 18, Open Mike Eagle and J57 from Brown Bag All Stars will pick the best track each month, which will then be featured and the artist will be given an interview on syffal.com. At the end of the year we will take the 12 best tracks and make them into an album called Floppy Seconds. Then you can use/sell/karaoke or whatever the Fuck you like with it. It will also be made available on syffal.com and serviced to the biggest hip hop blogs in the land.
This month's beat is: The obligatory long intro to talk shit or drop shout outs over” beat, or "Long Intro organ"…enjoy.
Please send all submissions to tim@syffal.com. The submission deadline for this beat is February 2nd.
