fucking EQ man! I don’t know anybody grinding harder to make a name for themselves. Dude produces impeccable West Coast bangers, goes ridick on the mic, and combines grimey and creative better than anybody short of RA the Rugged Man.
This video is just one in a growing line of dark, twisted fantasy from the mind of an adorably twisted soul. A take on The Twilight Zone’s, “The Mask,” episode. Character Jason Foster, on his death bed, invites his family members to a Halloween night dinner party at his New Orleans home. He informs each relation that they must wear a mask he’s prepared for them the whole night or be excluded from his inheritance. They each reluctantly and petulantly don the masks and commence with petty complaints and grievances. Upon the stroke of midnight Jason passes and when each family member removes their respective mask their faces have become the mask, a reflection of their petty, shallow characters. Only Jason, upon having his mask removed, is the face of peaceful calm.
Director Greg Lazcano has created a video that recalls the time period of the original episode perfectly with pig masks, zombies, and ghastly orderlies. This mother fucker EQ captured the vibe of that episode perfectly. He even, as he is prone to do, injects an insane asylum vibe into the mix. Although there are cameo’s from the likes of Thesis of Tha Process, and Bonnie Blue, this project, while homegrown and defiantly independent, is as professional as it is creepy.
Bosnia is a track off of The Chronicles of Black Lung, a free release that began as I challenge EQ to make an album where he raps over his own beats. For the longest time he harbored some kind of a hang-up about rapping over his own shit. And I gotta say, not only did he accept the challenge, bang the project out in record time, he also deserves credit for making a vulgar, offensive, and altogether beastly record. For what it is supposed to be, it is perfect.
