Duchess Leo, Golden Gray, Indie Rock Band, Bandcamp, Music Review

Michael Bivens taught me one simple rule to live by. I won't insult your intelligence my rehashing that rule but I will question Mr Bivens and his thoroughness. You see he was quite vague when it came to laying down the law. What am I to do when I am approached by a female who has big breasts and a smile? Michael Bivens never set a precedent for that. That is why for my entire life I have trusted big chested women. Implicitly. Call it stupid. Call it blind faith. Call it what you will but we men have weaknesses, and mine is for the boob. I mention this because a stacked young lady told me to check out the band her friend was in. Normally the "check out my friend's band, they're really good" is the kiss of death for new music sampling. You have to sit through some awful EP and then stare the person in their face (read: tits) and make up some positive sounding feedback like "oh yeah, their use of the glockenspiel on that cover of Limp Bizkit's Nookie was totally inspiring" or "Um, I really dug the artwork". I expected that to be the case when I was directed towards Duchess Leo's bandcamp.

I was wrong and I loved it. I love being wrong and I love indie rock band Duchess Leo. There I said it. Score one for The Boob Brigade.

Let's be honest. I was right to have my doubts. When someone passes music off to you and they are Kevin Baconed to it somehow the knee jerk reaction is to expect it to suck. It's an uphill battle. If one or two tracks are listenable it is a moral victory. Duchess Leo's album Golden Gray crushed that steep incline like a pair of American Flyers (respect the 80's movie reference). Your Sweet Love kicked the tone of Golden Gray off beautifully. Right off the bat I was soaring over sonic fields, gliding into a new world of audio adventure that would have gone unknown to me if it wasn't for the boobs! I can not thank them enough for introducing me to the beauty that is Duchess Leo. This album is not a throw away. Golden Gray is a must have album. For reals. Dan Ryan and Todd Butcher are talented mofos whose stylistic differences have created a uniquely awesome sonic marriage. Imagine if The Antlers and Local Natives got together and then decided to throw in some of Phantogram's electro sexiness while layering a piano on top. Damn I just read that back and it sounds like a total cluster-Fuck but those bands mentioned are some of my current favorites and that's the feeling that indie rock album Golden Gray is eliciting from me.

Lessons Learned: Trust Big Boobs and a smile. Love Duchess Leo.
