VHS Vision sounds like the fucking 90s.

I don’t mean it sounds like the music of the 90s, it sounds like what I remember the 90s to feel like. Well the early 90s, back when nobody knew what the Fuck was going on, took a lot of designer drugs and started puffing blunts like they were Newports. Before we knew that the era was destined to turn to shit and take all of us with it.

The vibe is complete, it reminds me a lot of people wearing black caps that were awkward fitting and crystals on nubuck leather straps. It feels heavy and dreamy at the same time. Tracks like Purple Melody harken back to those first days of college when you are hanging out with the people you hang out with when you first get to college. You know the ones, the group of people desperate for companionship, but within the two months will probably lose track of each other once they find their real friends. That shit was fun. You could always count on getting a little stank on your hang low in the early days.

Cosmic Sound does a great job of genre blending. It's effortless. One second you're in the weird psychedelic Netherlands surrounded by the heavy drums of Backyard Woods, and next thing you know you Little Flower starts and you are at your roommates parents place in downtown NYC covered in Goldschlager puke with a naked chubby girl that hasn’t yet admitted she is a lesbian and basking in your collective shame.

Night Owl has the feel of downtown before downtown had to move to Brooklyn which then had to move to upstate meth country in an attempt to escape the shitbird kids of investment bankers who pay way too much money and price everyone out of the cool neighborhoods and the inevitable Starbucks and Bank of America’s that follow. Night Owl captures the wonder of those few years when the neighborhood was still too scary for those pricks to come into it.

Wind Shine reminds me of summers drinking 40s and aimlessly walking around looking for something to do, eventually settling on a park bench and watching the night go by.

VHS Vision is fucking tits bro. Seriously, if you ever want to know what it was like to be alive in the last decent days of the American empire throw this Cosmic Sound fucker on.
