Tom Doz

Every morning I wake up and take a dull pencil to the dimple of my chin to ensure that it stays deep enough to utilize for everyday activities well into my old age. I call it shaping for the future. These activities include opening beer bottles, getting deep into those back massaging pressure points and storing Monopoly pieces. I also listen to music. I love music. Especially music that Employee hates.

SYFFALIST - JANUARY 2017

Tom Doz | January 31, 2017
Thundercat - Show You The Way (feat. Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins): Holy Del's balls on the hood ornament of a  late 70's Cadillac Deville with white leather interior. If this song doesn't make you want to sport that coat in the back of...

S#!T I missed in 2016

Tom Doz | January 23, 2017
There is a 'dead time' for new music. It usually lasts from the second week of December to the second week of January.  During this time I try to catch up on what I missed from the the previous year. And with all the year-end list inundating the inter-webz,...

SOHN - Hard Liquor

Tom Doz | January 17, 2017
I'm not familiar with SOHN's entire catalog, but I do know that I fell in love with their song 'The Wheel' a couple of years ago. That shit was trancy and glitchy at the same time, like I was seizing in a euphoric dream.  On Friday they...

Madaila - Traces

Tom Doz | November 7, 2016
Now, I don't condone or promote the use of LSD, but I love when songs sound like they were written on acid. Especially when the trippy quirks are unexpected and fresh as fabric softner. When the term 'psychedelic' is used my mind automatically ventures to the...

SYFFAList - August/September 2016

Tom Doz | October 6, 2016
Before we jump into this, I'd like to apologize (if anybody cares) for missing last month. But I wasn't feeling 10 songs. Not because there wasn't anything good, but because I got sucked into a few albums and didn't want to listen to anything else.  SO, I...

Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam - I Had A Dream That Your Were Mine

Tom Doz | September 23, 2016
So what happens when Hamilton Leithauser (of Walkmen fame) and Rostam (formerly of Vampire Weekend) get together? A venn diagram with nipples and a center that sounds something like Dr. Dog. At least that's what I'm hearing,...

Communist Daughter - Roll A Stone

Tom Doz | September 21, 2016
I shit you not. The pull quotes in Communist Daughter's press release referenced everyone of these bands: Arcade Fire, Of Monsters and Men, The Civil Wars, Fleet Foxes, and Bon Iver. ...with grunge stylings.  Normally this why I hate press...

Googie - 'Tis What 'Tis

Tom Doz | September 15, 2016
Tim (retired SYFFAL founder and fondler) forwarded Joel and I this album a couple of weeks ago from a rap artist with a strange name: Googie. I honestly don't remember the e-mail because Tim forwards me a lot of music people still send...

St. Paul & The Broken Bones - Sea Of Noise

Tom Doz | September 13, 2016
It's impossible to write about St. Paul & The Broken Bones without talking about their live performances, even in this.....a review for a studio album.  If you haven't seen the band live then you can't help but imagine what it'd be like...

Klangstof - We Are Your Receiver

Tom Doz | August 26, 2016
Klangstof is my new obsesh.  F'real; he is all I've been listening to for the month of August and I want to tell everybody I know about this Norwegian dream carriage who's name is Koen. BUT his album isn't out yet and he only...
