Time Travels

King of Wishful Thinking (Pretty Woman)

Joel Frieders | February 7, 2012

The first time I heard Frank McGinnis, or Time Travels as he goes by now, I had randomly skipped ahead to a track on his album that was both vivid and fucking intense. It surprised the fucking shit out of me in a way I don't remember any other artist doing. All at once he portrayed this innocently transparent musician who is both haunted and inspired by his surroundings and experiences, and it touched me in places no one's been since before I gave up Catholicism for just not being a fucking asshole and striving to be a decent muthafucker.

This time, Time Travels, or Francis McGinnis as I calls hims, on this his cover of the Pretty Woman soundtrack standout King of Wishful Thinking, will do all of the following: disarm you with his raw "I bet he needs to spit" voice, impress you with his layered production skills, and if you're a pussy like me, you'll be in tears by 1:29, and if not by then, at 2:10, and if not by then, YOU ARE fucking DEAD TO ME.

This song is no fucking joke. Del and I have both declared it not only one of the best PCC submissions we've ever received, but one of the best cover songs we've ever fucking heard. Everyone, if you weren't listening the first time, this is Time Travels, but I still call him Franky The Ginny.

A Word From Time Travels

Pop perfection is nothing to shake a finger at. When a hook is just so gosh darn good, people may deny as they like, but love is in the ears. And when a ration of good old-fashioned heartache is delivered with said pop perfection, it breaks the seal and skyrockets into a heartache-pop-explosion. These exact thoughts went through my four-year-old head when I saw Pretty Woman some time after it was released on VHS in 1990.
