One Song

ZOO

Bobby

...an excerpt from Tom's music diary:

35 seconds into this track by Zoo I could feel the chorus coming after crescendoing plea for 'Bobby': "Bobby, BOBBY, BOBBEEEEEEEY."

*Zach Morris Timeout*

This is the moment that this song will either fall flat on its face or blow back the trail to my treasure. From what I heard in the first 35 seconds I just know that there will be no in-between.

I read on Zoo's press release that his shit was like a marrying of St. Vincent and Youth Lagoon - quirky and experimental....as fearless as it was pants-buldgeable - it'd make you denounce your almighty savior, join a commune in Iowa and build teepees out of giant asparagai spears.

I just need a second to relish in my moment of Zach Morris timelessness, because all press releases say the most complimentary shit and I get fooled. It's all just fluff. Usually when a song (sent to me via e-mail) reaches this type of crossroad it falls apart even though I'm rooting for it to succeed.

This 35 second mark is common territory for me nowadays. So I'm preparin myself, adjusting my waist band and squaring my shoulders.

*Time in....*

WWWWWWOOOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHHHHHH.

This chorus is like a fucking tornado even though the wind chimes are chiming like it's a calm summer evening. It's an oddly pleasant dichotomy of opposing forces. Not only does it sound great, but it's intriguing. How am I hear hearing the harshness and softness at the same time, with neither over/under powering one another?

This song sounds like my inability to be angry at someone even though I WANT to and SHOULD be angry at that someone.

I DESERVE to be angry at that someone!

But in the end I don't follow through and all those ultimatums I promised to convey to that someone are empty threats.

I'm not sure if that's what Zoo was trying to convey, but it's how I feel. Fuck you 'Bobby'.

I love this song.
