One Song

AsimOff

Paradise

Brandon Backhaus | September 23, 2015

Vampires feed at night. So do pirates. And thanks god LA Cafe delivers 24 hours because so does the rap god, AsimOff. Proprietary partner in the place I party and pick brains at, Shambhala Studios, AsimOff can be found sitting comfortably at the head of the table, eating, smoking, playing FIFA while the bass humming from the afterhours party raging beneath him causes the building to rattle like Northridge circa 1994.

It's in this setting, adjacent to a gorgeous, professional, and barely one year old recording studio with its rich LA punk rock history, that AsimOff creates. With a video on the way, and track after track settling down on his Soundcloud, Mr. Off is way fucking ON!

This latest installment, called, "Paradise" finds our protagonist in narrative mode, weaving a story that is both in-your-face and intimate as whispers. It's the latter of the two that makes this track special. In what could be the darkest of dungeons, somehow fills AsimOff with passion and positivity. Ultimately, "Paradise," is a refreshingly cautionary tale about not living up to your own potential.

The FUCKING SONG GOES FROM QUALITY RAP JAM TO OH MY FUCKING GOD I HAVE GOOSE BUMPS at the 2:25 minute mark. A panning bridge completely changes the gears as AsimOff asks if you live your life like you really really want to.

I mean, do you?

These days that's a fair fucking question.
