Joel Frieders

I Love You Honeybear

I completely forgot this came out this year because I've listened to it more than there are hours in the year so far.

Eclipse

I'm addicted to this shit. Moody and introspective, yet leather fringe wearing fucking FABULOUS.

I wanted to hate this because the guy has long hair and looks like he judges me, but I love the bloopy beauty of this album.

Tom Doz

I Love You Honeybear

I didn't think Josh Tillman could possible top his first album Fear Fun, but I think he just gone and did it! Mascara, blood, ash, and cum 4 life!

Picture You

I'm not sure if the following makes sense, but The Amazing sound like a pot pie of so many different bands, yet still manage to sound unique and refreshing.

Carrie & Lowell

The sweetness of Sufjan's voice creeps me out for some reason. And I always say: 'the creepier the better.'

Christopher Bell

Melbourne, Florida

I have a thing for rock music that is epic and underachieving. Recalling some of the best punk music of the late-seventies, this Australian band made one that has grown in my ears with each additional listen.

Big Dark Love

Adam Turla is just a scary vocalist and the his interplay with the rest of this band is the cosmic slop that creates fun.

Rose Mountain

Screaming Females are the best and most important rock band in the world today. That is all.

Brandon Backhaus

Vestiges & Claws

This album completely took me by surprise (Great review, Chris). I haven't been a fan of Jose Gonzalez, don't own any of his previous music, and so never expected to be whisked away by his whispery lyrics and wistful melody. This is my Sunday morning making waffles music, bruh.

A Special Episode Of EP

I'm pretty sure unless he was openly punking us by releasing an opera record or something, anything Mike puts out would make my list. Any list. Yup, code. This is my super hero suit I'm wearing under my normal suit music, bruh.

To Pimp A Butterfly

You can't deny the talent that went into this recording. It's steadily growing on me too. I had a feeling that it would. His last one did as well. Didn't think I liked it that much and it just kept getting better and better. This isn't my music but I still like it a lot, bruh.

Johnny Symmes

A Special Episode Of EP

nother banger from OME. Guy is on fire right now. Keep it up bro bro.

Kill The Artist Hype The Trash

Dudes brought the heat and got me fired up on this joint. I want to break stuff.

Brotherhood of Strangers

Squeaked this in at the buzzer. This is what rock and fucking roll should sound like. In my not-so-humble opinion. Eat shit.

Ralph Perez

A Special Episode Of EP

Mike Eagle can't lose! He is one of the most engaging, funny, honest and genuine guys creating music out, and he started the year with a sweet ass EP. Mike you're my spirit animal.

Tetsuo & Youth

Lupe took a wild ride through a mucked up industry, and before he hits stage left and dips from Atlantic Records, he drops off his magnum opus. "Mural" alone gets this on my year end.

True Deceiver

This side/alternative project from one man show Tom Felipe (cars & trains) is some low, nasty, groaning music. Its not his normal electro folk stylings, but it's so natural and beautifully apocalyptic you wonder why we haven't had this always.
