We seem to be living in an angry time right now. Americans are pissed off as a whole. I think we all hate each other. We are confused, lost, bitter, and dumb. We have a media that has shrunk for 50 major news outlets in 1994 before media deregulation to 6 in 2009. The 6 have zero interest in Americans having an intelligent conversation on anything. Instead they pander to the lowest common denomenator of people expressing arguements that are anything but based in reality. They spend an inordinate amount of time on shit like Michael Jacksons death or the fucking Octomom.
Meanwhile the world seems to be falling apart. People feel like they are insane for the rage the feel, and it isnt reflected back to them in any sort of intelligent way by the media, who would rather have people call Bush a facist, or Obama a Nigg…i mean Nazi instead of looking at the corporations who own the media and profit from things like war, the current healthcare structure, the consolidation of wealth, the bogus immigration arguement, etc. People with insightful and intelligent arguments are relegated to comedy central, bill maher, pbs, and bbc. Go give BBC news a look and see how it compares to the bullshit scarathon/retardfight we have on our major networks. Its a nice break from nursury school to see adults discuss the problems of the world in an intelligent manner.
What does this have to do with Frank Turner? well everything, I think. I am a big fan of a righteous anger. It hits me in all the right ways. Makes my mind work, my soul tingle and my heart race. Frank Turner’s Sleep is for the Weak is just that kind of righteous anger. Its not necessarily political but it addresses the feeling of anger and disgust that many of us feel in the modern world and take it to a personal level.
