Death Songs - Water In The Eyes Of Man

The self titled album by Death Songs is a beast of a project, a globular organic mass of humanity that somehow simultaneously exists in the past, future and present. It dances on the graves of your forefathers and then makes the sweetest love to you lady friend while forcing you to watch her sheer joy as they both mock you and your tears.

Am I over selling it?

I don't think so, it really is something special and godlike, delivering culture and language to us primitive Fucks dancing around like savages and flinging poop everywhere. Death Songs, by its very nature is hard to define, it is a little folky, a little rockish, kind of poppy and drenched in something ancient and native without going all Peter Gabriel or Paul Simon on us. In a lot of ways he reminds me of Luke Temple slow dancing with White Denim; something happens to your soul when you listen to Death Songs, your chest starts to get warm, and a glow emanates out of your eyes, connecting with all that is living. It is transformative in that it reconnects you with the source, with nature, with the world and does this without a hint of pretension or hippy-ness.

I often imagine Death Songs as the good looking couple that moves in next door and almost immediately throws a bunch of avant garde sculptures on the front lawn. You are already thinking "what the Fuck" until they invite you over for a BBQ or two, next thing you know you are eating roasted pig and drinking exotic bourbons with Death Songs and his Norwegian wife, after everyone else splits he offers you a hit off his spliff of homegrown. You realize you were all wrong about everything and this son of a bitch had it right all along.

That's my buddy Death Songs, you might think he is a dick till you get to know him, and those that know him know he is a truly righteous fellow who may or may not be a paid killer. Plus Saw Everything is easily one of the top 5 songs this year, if its not on your top 5 list, then your top 5 list deserves to be kidney punched until it pisses blood and begs forgiveness.
